Say More

Say More is a set of speaking cards that helps students move beyond short, one-word answers and start giving longer, more detailed responses. Each card includes a question or statement together with a prompt that shows students how to continue what they are saying.

Very often, students answer briefly not because they have nothing to say, but because they are not sure how to keep going. Say More gives them a clear next step. The prompts help students organise their thoughts as they speak while naturally recycling common linking words and discourse markers that are essential for fluent communication.

What's inside?

The set is organised into 8 sections, each with 12 to 20 questions with different prompts:

2. Yes, but / Yes, and / Only if / No, but

3. Why is it a good and a bad idea?

4. It depends

5. On the other hand

6. First of all / What is more / However

7. As well as that / Besides that

8. The main reason / Additionally / On top of that

How can you use it?

Use it:

• as a warmer
• as a filler
• as a discussion starter

In individual lessons, show a card and ask the student to answer using the prompt, gradually building longer responses. In group classes let pairs or small groups discuss the questions while you monitor and encourage use of the prompts.

Who is it for?

These transformations are aimed at students at levels A2 and above.
