Role Plays 3 Ways is a collection of 90 EFL role plays in 30 different scenarios.
Role plays are a perfect way to practise functional language and communication skills.
However, not all students like them. Some can role play for hours and they find it very easy to come up with ideas and keep the conversation going. While others could look at a role-play scenario and never come up with anything to say.
We made Role Plays 3 Ways to suit all these different kinds of students.
For online lessons and for printing.

How does it work?
For each scenario there are 3 different EFL role play types:
Option 1 - Just a scenario with 2 roles. Students come up with the details themselves while role playing.
Option 2 - The same scenario but with useful phrases to use. Students role play the scenario using the phrases on the card.
Option 3 - The same scenario with some additional information. Students use the details from the bullet points to role-play the scenario.
Thanks to these 3 different options you can use these role plays with any kind of EFL student in many different ways.
You can give different students different options based on their skills:
Option 1 - use it for students who are creative, like role plays, and in general have no problems with talking and coming up with ideas.
Option 2 - use for students who are creative and have no problems with coming up with ideas. However, they might need some vocabulary prompts to help them keep the conversation going.
Option 3 - use for students who don’t like role plays and have problems coming up with ideas. The bullet points will guide them and help keep the conversation going. You can also use this option for students who are at a slightly lower level.
Use these role plays:
- as a scaffolding activity to build up students' communication skills - Because there are 3 different types of the same role play, the students will practise role-playing and communication in stages: from the easiest to the most challenging one. This will give even the least creative and confident students the chance to improve their communication skills.
- as revision activities
- to supplement a coursebook topic
