Why does it work with adult students?

Adults like to follow familiar patterns, because it makes them feel safe and confident in using English. However, that's not always the best way to grow beyond their current level.

Constraints are great, because they encourage students to move away from familiar (and often easy) patterns. When they can’t rely on the words or structures they’d normally use, they have to find different ways to express themselves, drawing on grammar and vocabulary they might not otherwise use.

It's especially good for students who have plateaued.
