Sentence Transformations - Inversion is a set of 50 sentence transformations to be done in 3 different ways: with a keyword, with prompts, with errors to correct.

Why in 3 different ways? Because varied practice helps students notice patterns, understand structures more deeply, and remember them for longer.

Sentence transformation is a common task in many national and international English exams. The aim is to produce a new sentence with a similar meaning to the original, using a different grammatical structure or phrase.

Even if your students are not currently preparing for an exam, this type of activity builds useful skills for future exam preparation.

This set includes 50 transformations covering a wide range of inversion structures at C1 level.

What's inside?

The pack is divided into 3 parts, each one contains 50 sentences (the sentences are the same for each part):

50 sentence transformations with a keyword.

In this part students complete the second sentence so that it has a similar meaning to the first one. They have to use the word given and they can’t change its form. They can only use between three and six words including the word given. Every word counts as a separate word (including a, an, the, not).

50 sentence transformations with prompts.

In this part students finish the second sentence so that it has a similar meaning to the first one. They have to use the prompts given in their correct forms.

50 sentence transformations with errors.

In this part students correct the second sentence so that it has a similar meaning to the first sentence.

In total: 150 sentence transformations.

The best way to use this pack is to choose a set of five or ten transformations and focus on helping your students perfect them. Work through the three different task types using the same sentences.
