The answer might be business case studies – where your students discuss real-life problems and scenarios they’re very likely to encounter at work.

How can you use them in your lessons?

Start by presenting a case study or a workplace problem. Highlight any challenging vocabulary to help students follow the scenario.

Then, get your students to discuss possible solutions. If they struggle to come up with ideas, you can make it even more practical by offering two or three possible solutions or approaches. Just make sure these aren’t perfect answers – this way, students can evaluate the pros and cons of each one and discuss how they might improve or adapt them.

To wrap up the lesson and consolidate new vocabulary and useful language, finish with a role-play. Students can take on the roles of different professionals from the scenario and try to solve the problem together.
